The art of British amplifier making

Individual analogue guitar amplifiers, handcrafted in a rural workshop on the outskirts of York, England.
For a lifetime of music.

01 / THE COLLECTIONS

Every Colson of York amplifier tells a story

The Three Sisters of Ainsty

Inspired by the Brontë family of Yorkshire, this collection honours three of the sisters, Maria, Charlotte and Emily. Each amplifier is individually crafted, with its own character, voice and material story.

Clear Evening Sky

The first of the Veils of York, Clear Evening Sky takes inspiration from the colours and serenity of a Yorkshire evening. Crafted from English sweet chestnut and Yorkshire sycamore, this one-off creation combines understated elegance with a clear, expressive voice.

The Tuxedo Twins

Inspired by a natural fissure that emerged during the drying process, the Tuxedo Twins take their name from the distinctive bow-tie inlays that will stabilise the hardwood. Two amplifiers coming soon, they’ll carry build numbers 006 and 007, a fitting nod to a certain British secret agent.

02 / THE CRAFT

Seasoned by time, shaped by hand

From carefully selected hardwoods to the finished cabinet, every Colson of York boutique guitar amplifier takes shape through a patient, considered process that respects the natural character of the timber.

That same dedication extends beneath the surface, where original analogue circuitry is being developed component by component, in pursuit of a distinctive voice that responds naturally to the player.

03 / BEHIND THE AMPLIFIERS

Made by Drew Colson

I’ve spent much of my life playing guitar, experimenting with sound and exploring how things work. Colson of York grew from my desire to understand and create. It brings together music, design, engineering, woodworking and analogue electronics in ways I hadn’t previously imagined.

Today, from my workshop on the outskirts of York, I design and build individual guitar amplifiers that reflect my interests and experiences. Each is a one-off creation, designed to be played and built to last a lifetime.
